The Bee Project is an artistic pursuit to research, explore and create a series of experimental artworks that I call ‘sculpture hives’. My vision is to create a series of sculptures that persuade bees into collaborating with me. I began conceptualizing the idea in 2018 when I had an opportunity to receive specialized professional development training at an apiary in eastern Canada. This opportunity enabled me to learn about the ecosystem of bees, wax cultivation, wax as a material and artistic tool. In 2019, I stepped towards a solo initiative to continue my research and creative experiments. The images below are from the 2019 beekeeping season where I spent my time between building equipment, researching, making artwork and maintaining bees. I am continuing with this project in 2020 in hopes to build a public art installation that is socially and environmentally conscientious.
