The Practice.

I am a visual artist with a socially engaged practice. I have five years professional experience in concept development, art fabrication and community outreach that is centered on grassroots initiatives. My practice begins from my life experiences and my interdisciplinary educational background in urban planning and fine arts. This has shaped an inner drive to create art that is inclusive in nature. I believe the beauty in the art has the power to convey truth: to give voice, to inspire, to feel and to allow us to understand our strongest and most complex emotions.

Looking back on the early stages of my development, I have always been curious and engaged in learning new and older forms of creative expression and techniques. My multidisciplinary approach to visual arts allowed me to explore and play with mediums such as photography, painting, drawing & collages, video works, 3D modelling, ceramics, sculpture and craft objects including; jewellery design, children’s toys and furniture-making. My diverse approach to understanding techniques is formed by an observable natural aesthetic centered on themes of; imagination, death, play, community and nature. I aim to build a practice that uses a professional mantra that infuses a collaborative community mind-set that is socially and environmentally conscientious.

The challenges of pursuing visual arts as a lifelong career has given me the opportunity to enjoy having creative freedom in my practice. I undertake a broad range of professional projects and activities that continually enhance my knowledge, reinforce my values, strengthen my human spirit while cultivating a love for the arts. In the past five years, I have worked on commissioned artworks in painting & sculpture, been voluntarily engaged in co-creating a non-profit artist-run sculpture studio (metal foundry), awarded artistic funding from the counsel of the arts, worked as a freelancer in creative industries such as set-design construction and scenic painting in theater and film.
