Seeds- Public Art Proposal, Open Community Project.
the project: Seeds
location: Montréal, Québec, Canada.
stage: Concept.
year: 2016
Seeds was a proposal that I had submitted into a public art competition that was organized by a housing developer and a local university. My proposal was to create a public artwork that was genuinely focused on people, local community networks, public engagement and sustainable materials. This initiative asked the general public to draw flowers that would then be the inspiration for the sculpture. These flowers would be fabricated in a collaborative setting between a local artist-run centre, p2p networks, and the general public. Seeds would use an open-source model and contribute back into open-source developments and open-innovation by hosting a series of workshops where we would build an medium-sized 3D printer that had the capabilities of printing the fabricated artwork using the waste from the demolition site. After the fabrication of the public art, the printer would be donated back to the public giving everyone access to specialized machinery. The intention was to openly demonstrate the nature of collaborative networks by creating a template that would include various communities by inviting people to become apart of the entire process. This project won honourable mention in the competition. I hope that one day I can revisit this idea and make it happen!
